Is a service from a pre-licensed clinician in your practice equivalent to seeing a more experienced Psychologist?

Psychologists have to provide services for years (3,000 hours) to patients before receiving full licensure and in this time they undergo a rigorous clinical training. Some patients have reported that they feel they received better counseling or evaluation from a postdoctoral resident than they did from a psychologist with decades of experience. Some reasons for this could be that students are learning the latest treatment and evaluation methods. They are also very enthusiastic about helping others and mastering their craft so this may account for why patients tend to be very happy with the services they receive. All pre-licensed clinicians are under my supervision and they are able to go over their cases with me in case consultation meetings so my opinion is included in your case even when you see an Associate for treatment.
