Why is succession planning important for my business?

Without proper succession planning in place, a business is vulnerable to some of the common issues that occur upon succession. One issue is that the person chosen may not have the habits required to succeed in the position. I am able to test the CEO or other person in a key role in the business and create a “benchmark” or profile of the person. Then I am able to test the individual(s) being considered for succession to see if they are a good match. If there are habits identified that can be strengthened through one of my personal development programs, I will recommend a course of talent development. In this way, the business is not placed at risk. The research on unplanned succession shows a business is open to many problems when there is a sudden change in leadership and company culture.
