Is my current career on the list of jobs that will be automated in the future? Could I end up displaced from my career?

We know about jobs that are easy to automate, like manufacturing, medical diagnostics, assembly, warehousing, logistics, call center, deliveries or any work that involves driving (truck driving, Uber, FedEx, etc. )We have all heard of the self-driving car, and know it’s only a matter of time. We have heard about Amazon’s drone warehouse. A survey of 300 of the world’s largest trucking companies indicated that each company is working on this process of developing self-driving trucks. Other easy to automate jobs are teaching or lecturing for high school and college, cleaning, customer service, and financial and tax-related work.

There is a surprise list of careers that will be increasingly automated over time. Pharmacy, many jobs in the medical field, psychology or counseling (yes, all of my work is on the list, in fact, my consulting work with businesses centers around helping them to fire their consultant by automating), physical or occupational therapy, pilots, crime prevention, building projects, journalism, and conservation.

If your work is on the list like mine is, my next article will start to address what steps we can take now to prepare ourselves. And, I will be writing soon about careers that aren’t easy to automate, and the careers of the future that automation will strengthen.
