Sandra F. Teniente is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. She earned her undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Texas A&M – Kingsville and received her Master’s Degree in Counseling with a Specialty in Community Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is currently working on obtaining her PhD in Clinical Psychology with a Specialization in Forensic Psychology. She has over 15 years direct experience in the behavioral & mental health, substance abuse and forensic fields.

She currently provides counseling services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families by providing services in social and emotional areas. She has extensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of group, family and individual counseling utilizing various intervention strategies and counseling theories consisting of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Multisystemic and Person-Centered therapies. She assists individuals in coping with life issues including dual diagnoses, behavioral, mental health, substance abuse, relationships, personal conflicts, sexual issues, problem solving, decision making and developmental concerns using an integrative and eclectic therapeutic approaches supported by evidence-based research. 

She has experience working in varied settings including mental health mental retardation centers, psychiatric hospitals and facilities, criminal justice systems and substance abuse treatment centers (residential and outpatient). In addition to working with a diverse population she also works with the LGBT community, military families, children and adolescents in the foster care system and provides familial counseling for adoptive families. She also works collaboratively with adolescents and adults involved in the juvenile/criminal justice systems.
